In this 2nd edition of the Alpiarça Fanzine and Comic Book Festival, following the example of the 2023 edition, initiatives revolving around the Fanzineteca of the Alpiarça Municipal Library will continue. This project is led by the comic book author from Alpiarça, Mário André, maintaining a distinctive offering in the region concerning comic art. The Alpiarça City Council once again invited the Tentáculo Association, based in Carnaxide, as a partner in organizing this event, which will take place in September 2024 from the 20th to the 22nd. The main day of the event will be Saturday the 21st, featuring workshops, presentations, launches, a book market, and an illustrated concert.
The main venue of the festival will again be the Alpiarça Municipal Market, where various collective artistic projects in the fields of comic books and national fanzines will be presented, along with exhibitions, workshops, book and fanzine launches, and a book market where comic albums, fanzines, and other alternative books can be purchased. At the end of the day on September 22, there will be an illustrated concert open to everyone who wishes to illustrate live music.
At the Dr. Hermínio Duarte Paciência Alpiarça Municipal Library, exhibitions and workshops will be organized. At Casa dos Patudos – Alpiarça Museum, a large exhibition dedicated to the 9th Art and national fanzines will be on display.
The festival organizers also created a short comic story contest aimed at all young residents in Portugal, which will result in an exhibition and the publication of the Alpiarça comic fanzine titled “Alzine.” With three prizes, a collective exhibition, and the possibility of publication in the fanzine, the organizers hope to encourage young people to participate and invest in developing their technical and artistic skills in producing graphic narratives.
