Mariana (Helen Rise)

PORTUGAL

Writer/ Artist

Helen is a pseudonym chosen by Mariana because she is a very private girl-woman.
Originally from Viseu, she moved to Aveiro to study Design at UA (and stayed in Aveiro), but she knew that since she was interested in so many things, it wouldn’t be possible to use her studies for just one… career. And so fear settled in! (wicked laughter).
Through trial and error (and a lot of impulsiveness) and many adventures with other “lost” artists, she had many different experiences. Photographer, copywriter and translator, makeup artist, visual artist, music and live show journalist, student again a few times, and other more boring things… Ghostwriting is not fun at all!
The desire to create a bit of everything remained, as did the desire to help others. She studied at CRIAP to become a professional art therapist so she could work with everyone — children with mental health issues or mere insecurities, adults with depression or anxiety, and even elderly people who need a wake-up call to fantasy!
After that… well, the story was put on hold because her body became upset and didn’t allow her to do much (or even little).
Recently, Helen woke up to the fact that there is still so much to do! Now that everything seems too late, Helen writes a lot, paints, draws, cuts and pastes, creates decorative objects or transforms existing ones, creates melodies and strange sounds (it’s all so interesting!) because it’s time to move forward.
This pure and innocent excitement for the future is unlike anything she has felt before. Feeling that everything is very interesting, Helen is exploring just that. Everything!
Mariana still believes it might be too late (what nonsense!), so Helen is pulling her along on this path — and what a fantastic adventure it has been!
Helen invites every human being to explore what she herself does not yet know — meanings in works, feelings, and perceptions. Together, always. Nothing happens in a vacuum, not even our most private and well-guarded dreams which, in reality, are made up of everything around our condition of… being alive.
