Edition #01 Theme: Eat

This was the first edition of our fanzine. Illustrated and edited in February 2020, after many years of planning, it explores the theme of “Eating” and features the exclusive contribution of the founder, Miguel Correia.

Edition #02 Theme: Dream

This was the second edition of our fanzine. Illustrated and edited in March 2020, it explores the theme “Dream” and features contributions from Miguel Correia, Joana de Matos, Vasco Cardoso, Nélia Costa, and João Tiago Fernandes.

Edition #03 Theme: Pandemic

April 2020. This edition has already been published and features contributions from six artists: Miguel Correia, Inês de Carvalho, Pedro Marques (Piteko), João Cláudio Larraz, Vera Barbosa, and Nevio Buzov.

Edition #04 Theme: Mutant

May 2020. This edition was published in mid-June and features contributions from five artists: Miguel Correia, Simão Joseph Chorosz, Marcelo Ribeiro, Isabel Nunes, and Luis Miguel Delgado.

Edition #05 Theme: Poison

June 2020. This edition was published in mid-July and features contributions from five artists: Miguel Correia, Luisa Maria Benito, Lara Teang, Ana Calisto, and Álvaro (Alph) Ferreira.

Edition #06 Theme: Scar

July 2020. This edition was published in mid-August and features contributions from six artists: Miguel Correia, Kali Kali, Ogata Tetsuo, Arianna Piccoli, Anna Klos, and Raquel Barrocas.

Edition #07 Theme: Addiction

August 2020. This edition was published in mid-September and features contributions from five artists: Miguel Correia, Lydia Swinney, Elias Marques, Jorge Tavares, and Sérgio Correia. It is a graphic and editorial essay on the various facets of addiction.

Edition #08 Theme: Skeleton

September 2020. This edition was published in early October and features contributions from five artists: Miguel Correia, Mariana Fidalgo, André Silva, Joana Franco, and Andreia Castro. It is a visual and artistic exploration of the Skeleton.

Edition #09 Theme: Reflection

October 2020. This edition was published in early November and features contributions from six artists: Miguel Correia, Mara Pereira, Imaginatory, Raka Gomez, Diogo Lopes, and Tiago Verdade. It is a visual and artistic exploration of the various meanings of Reflection.

Edition #10 Theme: Strength

November 2020. This edition was published in early December and features contributions from five artists: Miguel Correia, Anna Mancini, Gil Pinto, Nuno Freire, and Vitor Aguiar. It brings together various perspectives on the different definitions of Strength, expressed through diverse graphic and conceptual means.

Edition #11 Theme: Mystery

December 2020. This edition was published in early January 2021 and features contributions from six artists: Miguel Correia, Sara Seabra, Hekiw Akward, Rosana Pereira, Tiago Margaça, and Paper Surgery. It presents a free interpretation, in each artist’s unique style, of the theme “Mystery” and the many images the concept can evoke.

Edition #12 Theme: Music

January 2021. This edition was published in February 2021 and features contributions from six artists: Miguel Correia, Marcos Flammen, Catarina Santos, Keith Kitz, Rogério Guimarães, and Jacob Daikin. Each offered a personal interpretation of the theme Music and a graphic way to express this concept. This is the final edition of the first phase of our fanzine. After 12 months, we managed to bring together 50 artists from different backgrounds and realities, all adding great value to 12 issues of a bold and provocative publication that is only now beginning its journey.

Special editions created during workshops

Edition #13 Theme: Risograph Printing

June 2021. This issue was entirely created in 4 hours during a Risograph printing workshop taught by Rogério Guimarães at the Fanzine Ultra Violenta event – Fortnight of Alternative Visual Culture. The final result is a collaboration of the 12 workshop participants, and the fanzine was printed on a two-color Risograph duplicator: blue and black. This edition is exclusive to workshop participants and is not available for sale.

Edition #14 Theme: Photocopy

A return to the origins of fanzines, June 2021. This issue was entirely created in 4 hours during a fanzine editing workshop taught by Miguel Correia at the Fanzine Ultra Violenta event – 1st Fortnight of Alternative Visual Culture. The final result is a collaboration of the 9 workshop participants, and this is a special edition given to each of them. A version for sale is being considered.

Edition #15 Theme: Cyanotype

Special edition in A4 format printed on high-quality paper. This edition features works created during the cyanotype workshop taught by Mário Franco at the 1st Fortnight of Alternative Visual Culture. The final result is a collaboration of the 9 workshop participants and also serves as a tutorial on how to execute this photographic technique.

Edition #16 – Theme: XS Design

This publication is the result of a fanzine editing workshop on the theme “typographic resources of DIY subcultures,” taught by Miguel Correia on June 12, 2022.

It took place as part of the 2022 XS Design Xpress program, organized by the Design Student Group of the University of Aveiro, and was held at the Department of Communication and Art.

Twenty-five design students participated, each assigned a letter of the alphabet. From that letter, they were to choose a word, phrase, or concept starting with it and, using collage and typography, create a composition. The collection of illustrations produced during this four-hour workshop was compiled into this fanzine publication featuring the works of all participants.

Edition #17 – Theme: National Arts Plan

This publication is the result of a compilation of stencil paintings by the 11th-grade H class students of the arts course at José Estêvão Secondary School.

This set of illustrations was a gift to Fanzine Ultra Violenta on the occasion of the fanzine and self-publishing information session held on November 11, 2022.

This session was led by Miguel Correia, designer, cultural promoter, and editor of the Ultra Violenta fanzine.

The event took place in the multipurpose hall of José Estêvão Secondary School and was attended by students from the visual arts secondary education program.

It was organized by Professor Francisco Cardoso Lima and integrated into the National Arts Plan of the José Estêvão School Group.

Edition #18 Theme: Gluttony

October 2021. The first in a series of seven editions dedicated to the seven deadly sins, this edition explores the theme of Gluttony and features contributions from four visual artists: Miguel Correia (PT), Hercules Trigo (BR), Joana Castelo (PT), and Iestyn Pettigrew (UK). It also includes a contribution from the Aveiro-based band Jupiter.

Edition #19 Theme: Greed

October 2021. The second in a series of seven editions dedicated to the seven deadly sins, this edition explores the theme of Greed and features contributions from four visual artists: Miguel Correia (PT), Margarida Silva (PT), Mariana (Helen Rise) (PT), and R.J. Gomes (PT). It also includes a contribution from the Aveiro-based band Booby Trap.

November 2021. The third in a series of seven editions dedicated to the seven deadly sins, this edition explores the theme of Sloth and features contributions from four visual artists: Miguel Correia (PT), Charlie Warner (UK), Juni H Toch R (RO), and Danilo Cunha (BR). It also includes a contribution from the Aveiro-based band Päria.

December 2021. The last edition of 2021 and the fourth in a series of seven editions dedicated to the seven deadly sins, this edition explores the sin of Envy and features contributions from five visual artists: Miguel Correia (PT), Jacob Deakin (Wales), Tilly Burke (UK), Stephan Haines (Canada), and João Fragoso e Castro (PT). It also includes a contribution from the Aveiro-based band Musgos.

May 2022, the first edition of the year and the fifth in a series of seven editions dedicated to the seven deadly sins. This edition explores the sin of Lust and features contributions from five visual artists: Miguel Correia (PT), Danilo Cunha (Brazil), Paper Surgery (Netherlands), Sara Franco (PT), and Francis Design (Nowhere). It also includes a contribution from the band Loosh.

May 2022. The second edition of 2022 and the sixth in a series of seven editions dedicated to the seven deadly sins, this edition explores the sin of Vanity and features contributions from five visual artists: Miguel Correia (PT), Paulo Sousa (PT), Fábio Sousa (PT), Tiago Mita (PT), and Francis Design (Nowhere).

May 2022, the third edition of the year and the seventh in a series of seven editions dedicated to the seven deadly sins, this edition explores the sin of Wrath. It features contributions from five visual artists: Miguel Correia (PT), Juliana Verdú (PT), Fábio Sousa (PT), Adam Dahlstedt (PT), and Francis Design (Nowhere). It also includes a contribution from the Aveiro-based band Cosmic Mass.
