Independent culture, fanzines, self-publishing, and contemporary graphic art will take center stage at aMOSTr na FEIRA, taking place from May 21 to 23. The event will bring together dozens of publishers, authors, exhibitions, workshops, and talks dedicated to the world of self-publishing and alternative editorial practices.
Curated by the Associação Cabe Cave, the event will feature a diverse program including an editorial fair, presentations, creative workshops, exhibitions, and meetings with authors connected to Portugal’s independent fanzine and comics scene.
Among the highlights of the fair are the presence of Snob bookstore from Lisbon, coordinated by Duarte Pereira; the record shop Chaputa Records, coordinated by Esgar Acelerado; and Flanzine & Flan de Tal from Vila do Conde, coordinated by João Pedro Azul. The Fanzine and Artist Book Showcase, curated by Fanzine Ultra Violenta _ Edições UV and coordinated by Miguel Correia, will bring together several independent publishing projects, including Associação Tentáculo, Chili com Carne, Imprensa Canalha, Ultra Violenta, Estrela Decadente, Paperview, and Último Ediciones
The program also includes the “Portugal Zine” talk series, which will host meetings with authors and publishers such as Esgar Acelerado, João Pedro Azul, Xavier Almeida, Marcos Farrajota, Fernando Madeira, and José Feitor, in a set of sessions dedicated to reflecting on independent publishing, fanzines, and DIY practices.
Permanent exhibitions will also play a central role in the event, with highlights including “Flanzine XXV,” “NÓS POR CÁ TODOS BEM — 25 posters, 25 authors,” the traveling project “Estendal Z” by Drmakete, and the pop-up exhibition “Zine ao Natural,” also by Drmakete, which will include the launch of ZN #5.26.
At the same time, several workshops open to the public and families will take place, all free of charge. Fernando Madeira, under the pseudonym Phermad, will lead the “Sentidos Fantásticos” fanzine workshop, focused on creating characters and settings through sensory exploration. Marta Santos will host the visual poetry and illustration workshop “O Nome Poesia,” which proposes the creation of small handcrafted book-objects through text, collage, and illustration. Miguel Correia will lead the Mail Art workshop “Time Caps Lock,” dedicated to the international universe of Mail Art and the collective creation of an “assembling box.”
The event will also feature live caricature drawing by Phermad and the presentation of the Revista Decadente anthology (2019–2025) by Xavier Almeida.
With free admission and a strong participatory component, aMOSTr na FEIRA establishes itself as a meeting space for authors, readers, artists, and curious visitors, promoting independent creation, graphic experimentation, and the sharing of creative processes outside conventional publishing circuits.
